Draw Yourself a Spider

November 19, 2008

This is something I found on the world wide web which is quite funny and taken from a real email exchange. I think other than the brilliant spider illustration and the overall concept my favorite part is the second subject line used in the conversation by David Thorne. It took two readings to catch it.

Dear Jane, Are you sure this drawing of a spider is the one I sent you? This spider only has seven legs and I do not feel I would have made such an elementary mistake when I drew it.

Regards, David.

Dear David, Yes it is the same drawing. I copied and pasted it from the email you sent me on the 8th. David your account is still overdue by the amount of $233.95. Please make this payment as soon as possible.

Hello, I am back and have read through your emails and accept that despite missing a leg, that drawing of a spider may indeed be the one I sent you. I realise with hindsight that it is possible you rejected the drawing of a spider due to this obvious limb ommission but did not point it out in an effort to avoid hurting my feelings. As such, I am sending you a revised drawing with the correct number of legs as full payment for any amount outstanding. I trust this will bring the matter to a conclusion.

Regards, David.

Dear David, As I have stated, we do not accept drawings in lei of money for accounts outstanding. We accept cheque, bank cheque, money order or cash. Please make a payment this week to avoid incurring any additional fees.

Yours sincerely, Jane Gilles

I understand and will definately make a payment this week if I remember. As you have not accepted my second drawing as payment, please return the drawing to me as soon as possible. It was silly of me to assume I could provide you with something of completely no value whatsoever, waste your time and then attach such a large amount to it.

Regards, David.

Drugs Are Bad

November 16, 2008

I remember the D.A.R.E. program as a kid in elementary school.  I took the nice police officer’s advice seriously and I have stayed away from drugs.  You can credit my parents too, but it is as simple as that.  Awareness and warnings can help in life.

So here is my attempt to give back to the world.  If you see this man has directed the film you are about to see, you know what to do…

Triboro on IMDB

November 13, 2008

The Triboro IMDB Page is up. They did not credit every person I listed, and one of the actors listed was not in the film so I will have to make some updates.

Tyrone Hill Found

November 10, 2008

I was browsing youtube and oddly enough came across a clip of my own work. This is an out of context scene from the saga of The Triboro (formerly The Olympians) that I put together for Juhahn Jones’ reel relatively close to the wrap of the shoot (3 years ago).

It was a rough pass (sound design in particular) and I had no idea he was going to post it on youtube. However, I don’t mind because at this point it is like watching the work of some other director and the flaws don’t offend me as personally.

I am not even going to try and set it up in context so you have an idea of what is going on, because the story is so complex, that it would take a novela to clarify.

I have a lot of material from the world of The Triboro and the process of making it. This find has inspired me to share more on waldompictures.com.

Meanwhile, looking forward to taking the knowledge gained and running with some new projects.

Featuring:

Juhahn Jones (Tyrone Hill)
Niketa Calame (Maria)
Kate Rose (Jenna Thompson)

Filling the Polavoid

November 8, 2008

By the end of ‘08 Polaroid will be stopping the production of their instant film.

They claim by the end of ‘09 they will be all sold out, and unless some company picks up the license and chemistry to manufacture it, expect Ebay speculators to be our only hope in a few years.

But who can blame the Polaroid company for getting themselves into digital cameras and flat screen televisions, and actually surviving as a company? Especially when a lone programmer can create software like POLADROID, which is responsible for the above image of cinematographer and friend Andrew J. Whittaker. The software takes any jpg file and converts it into a pretty convincing Polaroid version of the original. The coolest part is by shaking the image you can speed up the development of the Polaroid like in the “real world.”

I shook the above image once the animated polaroid camera on my desktop spit it out, and it caused a purple cast. Obviously the sharpness of the original image is still coming through, but for a free software download the results are pretty nice. Imagine what Polaroid could do with a team of programmers and a nice budget.

I hypothesize that in 50 years or so film will largely exist only as a setting you punch into your camera. Right next to “sepia” and “solarize” will be “Fuji Velvia pushed 2 stops.”

It is a sad world in which we live.
